The second edition of the festival "Lausanne in Motion" has proven a great success, as more than 1 000 university students and the citizens of Lausanne gathered at Place de la Navigation in Ouchy, to enjoy a rich programme of sporting and cultural activities on Saturday 24 September.
From 11am until 8pm, guests participated in activities such as Zumba, parkour, juggling, pole dancing and paddle boarding within a friendly and exciting atmosphere.
Led by students, Lausanne in Motion was held in partnership with the Ville de Lausanne, the Canton de Vaud and the Swiss University Sports Federation.
The festival came at the end of a historic week for the International University Sports Federation (FISU). On 20 September, both FISU and its member National University Sports Federations around the world celebrated the first ever UNESCO-proclaimed International Day of University Sport, with countries including Norway and Australia holding their own festivals inspired by "Lausanne in Motion".
FISU President Oleg Matytsin said:
"I am extremely grateful to all our partners and the dedicated ambassadors and volunteers who helped bring this year’s "Lausanne in Motion" to life; it has been a powerful representation of constructive cooperation between student athletes and society. As well as being the Olympic capital, Lausanne is home to 15 000 students and researchers. It was wonderful to see students and citizens sharing their sports outside of their campus."

After the success of the 2016 edition, "Lausanne in Motion" looks set to return in 2018 as part of the IDUS celebrations. The IDUS was proclaimed by UNESCO’s member states in 2015 and will be celebrated on 20 September every year.
