The Russian International Olympic University (RIOU) this week opened its doors to students enrolled at Paris-Sud University in the French capital. The exchange students are participating in classes and activities alongside RIOU’s full time students studying for their Master of Sport Administration (MSA).

During their stay in Sochi the students will be studying two short courses on sports event organisation and personnel management. In addition to their studies, students will make site visits to Sochi’s Olympic venues as well as the Sochi Autodrom race track. During their visit to the Ice Cube Curling Center, students will also learn about the post-Olympic use of the venue and how Sochi’s citizens benefit from the city’s Olympic legacy.

They will also be able to take advantage of the skiing and snowboarding opportunities in what was Sochi’s Olympic Mountain Cluster during the 2014 Games.

Paris-Sud University student, Maeva Desclaudure – who hopes to secure a job in golf tournament management upon completion of her degree – said:

"Studying in Sochi is an excellent opportunity to experience the host city of the last Olympic Winter Games. I am honoured to be joining a network of highly-renowned international students and to learn from renowned professors from Australia and Austria. It is also a great opportunity to practice my English language skills."

The exchange has been organised as part of RIOU’s partnership agreement with Paris-Sud University, which will see RIOU students visit Paris on a return trip.

RIOU’s one year full-time MSA course is now in its fourth year and the current intake is a diverse group of aspiring sports managers hailing from 16 different countries and 12 regions in Russia.

Since the course’s first intake in 2013, RIOU has welcomed more than a hundred students from forty different countries. The MSA course was designed by distinguished Russian and international sport management experts and provides students with a blend of practical and theoretical knowledge in critical areas of the sports industry.

The MSA course has received widespread praise within the Olympic Movement and the international sports community for its role in equipping the next generation of sports managers with both the strategic and operational skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive and dynamic sports environment.

RIOU Rector Professor Lev Belousov said:

"In 2017 we can safely say that RIOU has become a valuable resource of manpower for the world of sport and the Olympic Movement. The awareness of the university has increased significantly over the past four years as we have expanded our international network of contacts and gained continued exposure from the academic world. We have also expanded our partners’ list to more than a dozen leading universities in Austria, the UK, France, Finland and China offering our students scope for new opportunities in different professional environments."

As well as students from Paris-Sud University, RIOU recently welcomed a group of Finnish students from the Savonia University of Applied Science. RIOU’s MSA students have in turn taken up internships in Austria, Switzerland, Finland and Greece in the past.
