(ATR) Germany won the medal count with 11; U.S. and Italy second with five each at the Rowing Junior World Championships Saturday in Rio de Janeiro.

The junior world championships served as a test event for the Rio 2016 Olympics taking place in less than a year.

An exuberant crowd was on hand to cheer on the athletes.

Although concerns over water quality in Rio have been raised and reported, IOC member John Coates tells Around the Rings the rowing venue is not an area of concern.
