QOC Secretary General HE Jassim Rashid Al-Buenain has been appointed as an Olympic Council ofAsia (OCA) Vice President following the OCA’s approval of his nomination by QOC President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani.
As per the OCA Constitution, the QOC was entitled to nominate a candidate for this position afterDoha was awarded the 2030 Asian Games. HE Jassim Al-Buenain was the CEO of the Doha 2030 Bid Committee and will be integral to Qatar’s preparations for the OCA’s flagship event.
Reflecting on his appointment, HE Jassim Al-Buenain said:
"I am honoured to serve as a Vice President on the OCA Executive Board. I would like to thank OCAPresident Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah and the whole OCA family for this opportunity tocontribute to a brighter sporting future for Asia. I am also grateful to QOC President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani for the nomination and entrusting me to represent Doha 2030 on the OCAExecutive Board.
"As we said throughout our Doha 2030 bid, Qatar is ready to host the Asian Games now, so we are able to use our cost savings on infrastructure to invest in sports development across the continent. I am looking forward to working with my colleagues on the OCA Executive Board and in NOCs throughout Asia to ensure Doha 2030 creates a positive legacy right away."
HE Jassim Al-Buenain joins QOC Second Vice-President Dr Thani Abdulrahman Al Kuwari as a Vice President on the OCA Executive Board.
