
Olympic Sponsors Rank as Best International Brands
Three TOP Olympic sponsors are ranked in the top ten of best global brands.
With a brand value of nearly $71.9 billion, Coca-Cola ranked first, according to Interbrand, a brand rating agency.
Interbrand determined the latest rankings using an algorithm that calculates "all the many ways in which a brand touches and benefits its organization."
GE and McDonald's were next highest-ranked top sponsors coming in at fifth and sixth, respectively. GE’s brand value totaled $43 billion and McDonald’s is $36 billion.
Samsung moved from 19th to 17th place with a brand value of $23.4 billion. Panasonic also moved up in the rankings from number 73 to 69, valued at a little over $5 billion.
With a value of about $4.5 billion, Visa sits at 75th, up from its rank of 82 in 2010.
Rome 2020 Selects Design Team
The bid committee for Rome 2020 selected its lead technical partner.
Coni Servizi Engineering & Consulting will plan and design the venues for the 2020 Olympics.
The company will work with a four engineering and architectural firms with experience in Olympic planning, including Studio Zoppini, which designed venues for PyeongChang 2018. The engineering firm is also working with the companies Shesa, Populous and Nussli.
"This collaborative and multi-lateral approach to supporting Roma 2020, will not only offer our Olympic bid the best possible blend of international experience and Italian capabilities, but will also enable our company to grow and develop a core, sustainable legacy for Italian and international sport for the future," said Raffaele Pagnozzi, general secretary of the Italian Olympic Committee and Coni Servizi’s CEO.
"Overlay and temporary venue planning is one of the key elements of Rome’s bid, said Ernesto Albanese, Rome 2020 Managing Director.
He added: "we are very pleased to count on the innovative combination of local resources and international expertise brought to us by Coni Servizi. This approach is critical in our effort to minimize capital investments while ensuring a responsible and sustainable legacy for the city, for Italian sport and for the entire Olympic Movementgoing forward."
Infront, FIBT Continue Partnership
Infront Sports & Media will continue to secure media rights for the bobsleigh federation.
The company sealed the deal today with the International Bobsleigh Federation (FIBT) through 2015.
"Over the four seasons, the aim will be to enhance various elements of the communication platform and to further strengthen the international appeal of the FIBT competitions on the road to Sochi and beyond," said Bruno Marty, Infront’s executive director of winter sports.
"Working closely with the FIBT to offer a highly attractive broadcast product, we will increase the exposure of these premium winter sport events market by market and across all platforms – with particular focus on exploiting the new media potential."
Infront is a leading sports marketing firm.
FIBT president Ivo Ferriani said the partnership will "drive our sport forward in the long term."
