(ATR) The International Sailing Federation is looking to the corporate world for direction.

Former Accenture executive Peter Sowrey joined ISAF as its new CEO on Thursday.

"The only thing that rivals Peter’s exceptional business know-how is his love for sailing," said ISAF president Carlo Croce, "and this combination of attributes ensures that Peter will lead the organization forward with distinction."

Sowrey says he is "honored" by the selection.

"Sailing has always been a passion for me," said Sowrey, "and to now combine this with my business knowledge is a great opportunity for me to affect a change and drive the sport and organization forward."

Sowrey’s background is in developing brands, services, sales and organizational capabilities. A release says he "will be key in helping shape the vision and direction of the organization, working in conjunction with the president … and the executive board."
