New IFSC World Cup round kicks off today in Flanders

The team of BVKB/Klimax, in collaboration with the Klim-enBergsportfederatie (KBF), the CMBel, the CAB and the NKBV, are hostingfor the seventh time in a row the IFSC Lead World Cup in the Flemishcity of Puurs, Belgium.

The event, a yearly tradition for climbers since 2004, is set to becomea remarkable experience for everyone. A unique selection of 85 of theworld’s best climbers, coming from 21 countries of all over the world,are competing today (September 30) and tomorrow (October 1) in thespectacular semi-outdoor permanent climbing wall called Klimax II. Thewall, unequaled across the globe in size, dimensions and overhang (maxoverhang 21 meters), has been be set for the competition by the FrenchChiefroutesetter Paul Dewilde and its team.

Among the talented athletes registered to compete on the most amazingwall of the World Cup series are: the Austrians Jakob Schubert (winner,until now, of all 2011 IFSC world cups and therefore leader of IFSCworld ranking), Angela Eiter (World Champion in Arco and on the podiumin Chamonix this year), Katharina Posch and Johanna Ernst; the SpanishRamón Julian Puigblanque (current World Champion and 2010 gold medal inPuurs); Manuel Romain (FRA); Thomas Tauporn (GER); the Japanese AmmaSachi; the Korean Kim Jain (2011 gold medal in Chamonix and on thePuurs podium in 2010); Yana Chereshneva from Russia, the Slovenian MajaVidmar (winner in Briançon this year) and Mina Markovic (winner ofthree 2011 world cups and currently first classified in IFSC worldranking); the American Sasha Digiulian (overall champion in Arco 2011).

More than 3000 spectators are expected to attend the free entranceevent. In addition to the spectacular show on the climbing wall, publicwill have chance to practice various special activities associated toclimbing in the outdoor activity park linked to the event.

According to the program, qualification rounds men and women will startat 11:00 am on Friday, September 30. Semifinals will happen at 10:45 amon Saturday, October 1, while the Final round will be at 5:30 pm on thesame day. Between the semi-finals and finals, at 2:30 pm, a Dyno worldrecord contest is scheduled to take place.

Belgian television EXQI will broadcast, as delayed emission, a summary report of the Puurs World Cup, on October 2.
