KATHMANDU, Nepal (August 5, 2019) -World Taekwondo officially recognized the National Taekwondo Academy in Kathmandu, Nepal as its regional training center in a ceremony on August 5, 2019.
The center is the 12th WT-designated regional training center. The first WT regional training center was designated in 2008 in Beijing, China, with the latest one in August 2019 in Rome, Italy.WT has other regional training centersin Azerbaijan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Iran, Germany, the United Kingdom, Korea, and Croatia.
In the opening ceremony of the WT regional training center, WT PresidentChungwonChoue delivered a certificate of recognitionas a WT regional training center to Mr. PrakashShumsher Rana, president of the Nepal Taekwondo Association.
"I strongly want this Nepal WT regional training center will serve as a good educational training center for taekwondo people not only in Nepal, but also in the South Asia region.
Among the dignitaries attending the opening ceremony wereMr. Ramesh KumarSilwal, member secretary of the National Sports Council of Nepal;Dr. Nam-chul Cho, vice president of the Asia Development Foundation; Mr. Rick Shin, secretary general ofthe WT Pan America; Mrs. Selma Li, president of GCS International Portland, USA Chapter; and Grand Master Jay-kyun Shin, better known as the "father of Nepal taekwondo."
