IWGA Partners with Sportcal for GSI Event Study on The World Games 2017

The International World Games Association (IWGA) has signed a one-year agreement for Sportcal to undertake an Advanced GSI Event Study on The World Games 2017 taking place in Wrocław, Poland, from 20-30 July this year.

Commonly known as the multisport games for non-Olympic Sports, The World Games was first held in Santa Clara, USA in 1981, with the aim of providing a showcase for sports not included on the Olympic programme.

In 2017, The World Games features 27 sports on the official programme, and four invitational sports, selected by the host city. Approximately 4,500 athletes will participate in 180 medal events, over 11 days, in 20 venues.

Approximately 120 nations are expected to receive television coverage of the event, while footage will also be shown on the Olympic Channel.

IWGA President, José Perurena, said:

"I am very pleased to sign the contract with Sportcal. I am convinced that we will host a great event in Poland with a huge impact on the community and with global coverage, but it will be important to have a survey to measure the results, both for the benefit of the current hosts, the future hosts and the IWGA. As the bidding process for The World Games 2025 is starting after this year’s Games, this information is crucial to us."

Sportcal will work in collaboration with key stakeholders involved in staging the event, including IWGA; Wroclaw 2017; sponsors; broadcasters and any third party organisations to gather, assimilate, analyse and compare the data and narrative around the event.
