The International Tennis Federation has opened up its video archive to give fans the opportunity to re-live some of the winning moments from Davis Cup and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas over the last 25 years.
Tennis fans, who are unable to watch live matches due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and subsequent postponement of the sport until 13 July, will now be able to recapture some classic moments from Davis Cup and Fed Cup’s recent past.
The ITF is able to provide these classic matches following the digitalisation of its video catalogue, a key project delivered in 2019 under the ITF2024 strategy. The digital archive allows the ITF to manage and distribute an extensive content archive of 15,000 assets dating back to the 1940s from the Davis Cup and Fed Cup, preserving and celebrating the history and prestige of these unique competitions.
Over the course of the next 10 weeks the ITF will show full matches on its YouTube channel starting with the last time that Spain won the Fed Cup title as Conchita Martinez and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario clinched a thrilling tie against Switzerland with victory in the doubles over Martina Hingis and Patty Schnyder in 1998.
Other classic moments will include Roger Federer’s famous triumph against Richard Gasquet to clinch a first Davis Cup title for Switzerland in 2014, Petra Kvitova’s unforgettable encounter with Angelique Kerber in the Fed Cup Final the same year, Australia’s last Davis Cup triumph in 2003 when Mark Philippoussis defied a pectoral injury to defeat Juan Carlos Ferrero and Serbia’s now legendary head-shaving celebration after winning Davis Cup for the first time in 2010.
The ITF will also be putting fans in the driving seat as they give viewers the chance to choose which matches they would like to see played in future.
Matches will be played live at 11:00 GMT every Thursday on the ITF’s YouTube channel.
