The IAAF will present an award for the best athletics photograph of the year at this year’s IAAF Athletics Awards 2018 on Tuesday 4 December.
Any professional photographer who has been officially accredited at an athletics event in 2018 can take part.
Photographers are requested to submit one photograph by email to iaafphotoaward@iaaf.org, and include a caption, the date the photograph was taken and the image's technical information.
Entries should be no larger than 5MB and must be received by midday Monaco time on Wednesday 31 October.
A panel of experts will judge the photos and will select the top 25 entries. The shortlisted images will also form part of a photography exhibition which will be held alongside the IAAF Athletics Awards between 1 and 5 December in Monaco.
The panel will select the top three images from the shortlist. The finalists will be informed of their selection by 15 November and invited to the IAAF Athletics Awards in Monaco on 4 December. The winner will be announced live on stage at the IAAF Athletics Awards.
Running alongside the contest for the athletics photograph of the year will also be a separate prize awarded for the best photograph of the year taken by a fan photographer.
Entries should be submitted via Twitter between 1 and 20 November by using the hashtag #IAAFPhotoOfTheYear. Only one image per entrant shall be accepted.
The three finalists in the contest for professional photographers will form the panel to determine the winner of the award for fan photographers. The winner will be announced on 10 December and will receive travel, accommodation and tickets for two people to an IAAF Diamond League meeting of the winner’s choice.
