Dr Peter Harcourt appointed as CGF Medical Advisor

Dr Peter Harcourt has been appointed as the new Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Medical Advisor where he will where he will chair the Anti-Doping and Medical Commission and join the Executive Board.

Dr Harcourt, an Australian medical doctor and specialist sports and exercise physician, is one of the leading professionals in his field with decades of experience working in international sport.

He currently chairs both the International Cricket Council (ICC) Medical Advisory Committee and the Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) Medical Commission whilst being a member of the Prohibited List Expert Group of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

He also holds the roles of Medical Director of the Australian Football League (AFL), Chief Medical Officer to Basketball Australia and Anti-Doping Medical Officer to Cricket Australia.

Dr Harcourt has worked across the Commonwealth Games in various capacities including when he was a member of the CGF Medical Commission for Gold Coast 2018. He was also Chief Medical Officer at Melbourne 2006 and Chair of the Commonwealth Games Australia (CGAus) Medical Commission while he has attended multiple Commonwealth Games as well as Olympic Games as a team medical officer.

He was appointed CGF Medical Advisor following an international search for applicants.

I have been involved with the Commonwealth Sport Movement in various capacities for over two decades and look forward to using my knowledge and experience in order to help the CGF fulfil its vision and mission."

Dr Harcourt will begin the role immediately, succeeding Tan Sri Dr Manikavasagam Jegathesan of Malaysia as CGF Medical Advisor. Dr Jegathesan retired from the position at the CGF General Assembly in Rwanda in 2019.
