Czechs Secure Rowing Championship -- Federation Focus

(ATR) The Czech Republic will host the 2022 World Rowing Championships, World Rowing (FISA) announced this Wednesday.

The event will take place at the Racice International Rowing and Canoeing Course in late August of 2022 on dates still to be determined.

This will be the second time that the Czech Republic has hosted the World Rowing Championships

The senior championships come to Racice after it will host two FISA junior events in the next few years. First it will stage 2018 the World Rowing Junior Championships and then 2021 World Rowing Under 23 Championships.

"Racice is a proven regatta venue that has made a number of significant infrastructure improvements over recent years," FISA PresidentJean-Christophe Rolland said in a release about the decision.

Tennis Olympic Qualification

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic tennis competition will be preceded by a new qualification system to the event.

For the first time in Olympic history, players will have a chance to earn a place in Tokyo through one of the regional multi-sport games.Qualification will come from the 2018 Asian Games, the 2019 African Games as well as the 2019Pan American Games.

In addition, one place will be awarded to the highest ranked man and woman in both Europe and Oceania from a country not represented in singles.

The 2020 Olympic Tennis Event will once again feature five categories: men’s singles and doubles, women’s singles and doubles, and mixed doubles.

Each singles draw will comprise 64 players, with a maximum of four players per nation.

There will be 56 direct acceptances as at previous Games, and eight ITF places, including six Continental Qualification places.

WFDF seeks 2019 world champs host

Candidates have until May 15 to present documents to bid for the 2019 World Flying Disc Federation World Championships.

The tournament will feature competitions in seven flying disc disciplines — Freestyle, Double Disc Court, Discathon, Accuracy, Disc Golf, Distance and Self-Caught Flight.

Bids will be awarded and announced no later than mid-June, 2018.

The 2017 WOC was hosted in Basingstoke UK and before that in 2015 in Norrkoeping Sweden, with 100 athletes at each event.

New FIH Chief executive

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has announced that France’s Thierry Weil is its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Weil spent more than 25 years working for Adidas as a Vice President for Global Football Sports before joining FIFA in a ten-year spell as Director of Marketing.

"The FIH Executive Board and myself are absolutely delighted that Thierry will be joining the FIH,"Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra,FIH Presidentsaid in a statement."He has an impressive and varied skill set which combines a strong, successful commercial background with the know-how that comes from a decade of working at the largest international sporting federation in the world."

Weil will join the hockey federation in April.
