CBC’s coverage of the best high-performance amateur athletics will continue over the next two weeks with the IAAF World Championships from Beijing, China. The top track and field athletes from around the world will continue their journey toward Rio 2016 as they go head-to-head from Aug. 22-30 and CBC will have daily live coverage across cbcsports.ca, the CBC Sports App for iOS and Android, and CBC-TV, with select additional live coverage on CBC News Network.
Scott Russell (@SportsWkndScott) will host CBC’s coverage from Beijing and will be joined by reporter and former World Champion hurdler, Perdita Felicien (@perditafelicien), bringing Canadian audience the latest news from the competition. Commentator Rick Ball will provide play-by-play of the events alongside Olympian and two-time Commonwealth Games decathlon champion, Michael Smith, who will serve as analyst.
Coverage of the World Championships begins Saturday, Aug. 22 at 3 p.m. ET (12 p.m. PT) online (4 p.m./4:30 p.m. NT on television) and continues through Sunday, Aug. 30 with daily coverage online at cbcsports.ca and through the CBC Sports App for iOS and Android devices. CBC-TV will have weekend coverage Aug. 22-23 and Aug. 29-30, while CBC News Network will have live coverage of select events throughout the competition including the men’s 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay finals.
Many of the Canadian athletes who shone at last month’s Pan Am Games will compete in Beijing against more of the world’s top athletic talent in a potential preview of next summer’s Olympic Games. Sprinter Andre De Grasse, decathlete Damian Warner, heptathlete Brianne Theisen-Eaton, high jumper Derek Drouin, pole vaulter Shawnacy Barber, and heptathlete and sprinter Jessica Zelinka are just some of the Canadians looking to add 2015 World Champion to their resumes. De Grasse specifically is scheduled to compete in the men’s 100m and the 4x100m relay, setting up potential gold-medal finals against world class competition including Jamaica’s Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell, and the USA’s Justin Gatlin and Tyson Gay.
In addition to live streaming coverage, cbcsports.ca will feature an IAAF-specific page with results, medal table, schedules, records, and historical information from past World Championships. Also, CBC’s Anson Henry (@ansonhenry), a Pan Am Games and Commonwealth Games medallist, Olympian and World Championship sprinter, will file a daily digital report at cbcsports.ca called The Starting Block, providing the latest news and notes from the World Championships.
