(ATR) Miguel Maduro, the former chair of the FIFA governance committee, will testify to the British Parliament about his brief tenure under President Gianni Infantino.
Maduro was relieved of his duties this May at the annual FIFA congress by Infantino after eight months with the organization. Maduro’s role was to chair a commission on governance reforms needed to help restore the image of FIFA following a widespread corruption scandal in 2015.
Infantino suggested that Maduro’s dismissal was solely due to wanting more diverse geographical representation on different FIFA committees. Mukul Mudgal, an Indian High Court justice, replaced Maduro on the governance committee.
The Culture, Media & Sport select committee in Britain is expected to "explore the pressure and interference Maduro experienced at FIFA," according to the AP. The hearing is part of an ongoing inquiry into sport governance. FIFA’s double allocation of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups was previously investigated.
Damian Collins, chair of the select committee, is expected to ask Maduro if he believes Infantino is doing enough to reform FIFA, according to Sky Sports.
2018 World Cup Tickets on Sale
The first tickets for the 2018 World Cup will go on sale this week.
Ticket sales will go through two phases. The first phase, starting Sept. 14, will be conducted through an application process on FIFA’s website. Applicants will have until Oct. 12 to submit a form requesting tickets. From Nov. 16-28 those who were selected will be able to purchase tickets.
The second phase of ticket sales will begin on Dec. 5.
Prices for the final of the 2018 World Cup will begin at $456 and max out at $1101. The price of the highest tickets is a $200 increase from the final of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Russian residents will have access to lower priced tickets to all games. Tickets will start at $23 for group stage matches and reach $122 for the final.
