(ATR) The 2007 IAAF World Athletics Day, the federation’s annual youth festival, is celebrated today and Sunday Osaka, the host of the 2007 IAAF Athletics World Championships.
World Athletics Day originated in 1996 and is one of the most popular IAAF promotions. This year, participants from 157 nations will go to Osaka for the event.
As with past World Athletic Days, children will be competing in several athletics events. There are two groups of competitors: youth, for those born in 1990 and 1991, and “minimes”, children born in 1992 and 1993.
In each group, there will be a drawing of national winners who will receive a trip to the Osaka championships in August. In addition, the IAAF plans to distribute T-Shirts, posters and pins to each competing federation, as well as an Athletics Day diploma to each participant.
