(ATR) - Artur Takac, 86, a longtime friend and confidant to former IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch, as well as an adviser to the IAAF, may have died on a ski outing last week on Serbia's highest mountain. He failed to return after bad weather hit the area. An intensive search has been underway since then.

Takac fled to Switzerland from his native Yugoslavia during World War II. He became a professional sports administrator after retiring as an athletics competitor, eventually serving as director of sports for the IOC. He was involved with the organization nearly a dozen Olympics, summer and winter.
