(ATR) Michael Stone has been named Secretary General of the International Equestrian Federation.
Stone received the appointment Monday during the FEI World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany. He has been acting secretary general for the federation since May.
"I feel honoured to be selected," Stone said in a statement. "At a time when the FEI is clearly striving to change its tempo and direction, I am looking forward to the responsibility of leading the FEI Staff and to unify the horsesport community so that we can achieve the agreed roadmap and targets against which I and the FEI will be judged."
Before becoming interim secretary general, Stone served as the secretary general of the Equestrian Federation of Ireland from 1987 to 1997. He joined FEI in 1997 as a Development Officer, then was named assistant secretary general in 1998, and was appointed FEI sports director in 2003.
Stone replaces Jean Claude Falciola, who left FEI in June.
