Less than four months before the ceremony, Paris 2024 officially inaugurated a new venue and it is the Olympic marina of Marseille, where sailing competitions will take place at the next Olympic Games.
The Roucas-Blanc marina has six new buildings that were built over the past two years and will welcome more than 300 sailors who will compete in 10 disciplines, from July 28 to August 8.
“What a thrill! This infrastructure is a miracle. It is an installation designed for the best, but also to inspire new vocations,” said Tony Estanguet, president of the Organizing Committee, who was present at the inauguration.
Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, Minister of Sports and Olympic Games, said that “the young people of Marseille will be inspired by this summer’s victories” and stressed: “The images will be magnificent and Marseille will dazzle the planet”.
For her part, Sarah Steyaert, world champion in Laser Radial in 2008 and who will compete in the 49ers with Charline Picon, recalled that “I trained there for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and they housed us in prefabricated buildings. It’s incredible. The buildings, the hangars, the space... It’s great. It has everything you need.”
Meanwhile, the mayor of Marseille, Benoît Payan, also pointed to the legacy that the Olympic Games will leave: “Entire generations of Marseillers will learn to sail there”.
