Argentina, runner-up in Tokyo 2020, will open the women's tournament against the United States.

The hockey tournaments of the Olympic Games will be played at the historic Yves-du-Manoir Stadium in Colombes, near Paris, one of the venues inherited from the 1924 edition 100 years ago.

The men’s and women’s hockey tournaments will begin on July 27. The first hockey game will be an all-European affair with Great Britain taking on Spain for Group A of the men’s draw at 10am local time. The women’s competition begins the same day at 19:45, with Argentina, runner-up in Tokyo 2020, playing against the United States, in what will be a reissue of the Pan American final in Santiago 2023.

The group stage, in both branches, will continue until August 3, followed by the elimination games starting on the 4th. The men’s hockey medal crosses will take place on August 8, followed by the women’s definitions on August 9.

Men’s hockey, which was presented at the 1908 London Olympics, will be played for the 25th time in Paris 2024. Women’s hockey, which was presented at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, will perform for the twelfth consecutive time.

“We are all looking forward to exciting games and a very attractive Olympic hockey tournament,” said the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, who was present at the announcement. “Good luck to all the teams,” he added.

At the beginning of 2024, the 12 men’s teams and the 12 women’s teams were placed in their groups, based on the positions in the FIH ranking at the time.

Among the boys, the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, France and South Africa were in Group A; while Belgium, India, Australia, Argentina, New Zealand and Ireland were placed in Group B.

In the women’s category, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Japan, the People’s Republic of China and France were placed in Group A; while Australia, Argentina, Great Britain, Spain, the United States and South Africa were in Group B.
