The United States dominated the 2023 Pan American Games that took place from October 20 to November 5 in Santiago, Chile, a historic competition for the region for the number of places it awarded for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The United States delegation finished with 124 gold medals and a total of 286 to leave behind Brazil (205) and Mexico (142), who completed the podium. Chile, which organized the Pan American Games for the first time, finished with its best performance in terms of the number of medals (79), but it was one gold away from matching what was achieved four years ago in Lima.
The world figures present in Santiago did not disappoint
Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade finished her first Pan American Games with two golds (beam and jump) and two silver (asymmetric bars and equipment), while Canadian swimmer Maggie Mac Neil -also in her debut- won five golds (100 butterfly, 50 and 100 freestyle, 4x100 and 4x100 medley), one silver (4x100 mixed medley) and one bronze (4x100 mixed free).
