The individual artistic gymnastics finals and a new day in swimming dominated by the United States were the highlights of the fourth day of competition at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, which also had a shared gold medal.
The Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade shone again in the jump test and won over the American Jordan Chiles, while the silver one was later hung on asymmetric bars after being left behind the American Zoe Miller. Among the men, there were three finals: the Canadian Felix Dolci, champion in the All Around, won the floor test; the Canadian Clay Zachary won the easel with reasons and in rings the Pan-American title went to the American Donnel Whittenburg,
At the Aquatic Center, Canadian Maggie Mac Neil reached her fourth Pan American title by winning the 50-meter freestyle, but this time she shared the gold medal because the American Gabi Albiero did the same time (24.84). The United States added gold (it already has 17 in swimming) with David Curtiss (50 freestyle), the American Jay Litherland (400 meters combined) and the women’s 4×200 pole, while Canada’s Julie Brousseau (400 meters combined) and Brazil in the men’s 4×200 pole (she broke her own Pan-American record with 7:07 .53) were the other winners of the day.
Rowing makes Chile grow on a day when it achieved three gold and one silver finish over five finals. The Mexican Paola Longoria increased her legend in racquetball by winning her tenth gold medal and the fourth consecutive in singles by beating her compatriot Montserrat Mejía, while in the same sport the Independent Athletes Team (Guatemala cannot compete with its name because its National Committee was suspended) won its first title in Santiago 2023 by winning the women’s doubles with Gabriela Martínez and María Renee Rodríguez beating Argentina in the final.
The United States won 51 gold medals and surpassed one hundred to clearly dominate the Pan American Games, while the podium is completed by Mexico and Canada.
