The Paris 2024 Olympic Games have promised “Games Wide Open” and that will certainly apply to the Paralympics as well.
For the first time in the history of the Paralympics, the Opening Ceremony will be held outside a stadium.
Over 4,000 athletes representing up to 184 nations will parade down the famed Champs-Elysées to Place de la Concorde in front of an expected audience of 65,00 spectators, with millions more watching and streaming worldwide, to kick off an historic Paralympic Games.
“To experience an Opening Ceremony outside a stadium, in an iconic location in Paris a revolution,” said Marie-Amélie Le Fur, President of the French Paralympic and Sports Committee. “It will be a historic moment for the Paralympic Movement. It’s unheard of.”
“The ceremony will be spectacular,” said Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet. “It will reflect our ambition to organize Games that have an impact and transform society. We wanted a creative and innovative concept. That’s our trademark.”
Thomas Jolly is the Artistic Director of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games ceremonies and he is eager to get started.
“I can’t wait to imagine the show that will transform the heart of Paris into an unprecedented artistic festival, with performances never seen before,” he said.
“A show that will put the spotlight on Paralympic athletes and the values they embody. A show that will bring together spectators and viewers worldwide around the unique spirit of the Paralympic Games.”
The Paralympic Games will open August 28, 2024 and the mayor of Paris can’t wait to welcome the world to her city.
“Paralympic sport and culture will parade in front of the most beautiful landmarks of the city to showcase its beauty and promote its universal message of solidarity, dignity and equality,” said Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo.
“I am delighted this celebration of the diversity of sports and athletes is coming closer by the day, and I am already looking forward to the legacy they will leave in the daily lives of Parisians.”
