ANOC elects HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani Elected as new Asian Senior Vice President

At the General Assembly in Seoul, South Korea Hamad Al-Thani was elected with a 166 votes in securing his new term which runs through 2026

HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, the President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), was elected as the Senior Vice President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) at the organization’s General Assembly in Seoul, South Korea, on Thursday.

Upon his election, HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani said: “I greatly appreciate your support and the trust you have shown in me. I also thank the Olympic Council of Asia for their nomination. Working to represent the interests of ANOC and the entire NOC family to the best of my ability starts now and I am excited for what is to come.

“As we say in the Olympic Movement, we are stronger together and there is so much we can learn from each other.”

The election for the position was carried out through a secret ballot where Sheikh Joaan Al-Thani received 166 votes.

The Asian National Olympic Committee nominated Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani for this position. He will serve as the ANOC’s new Vice President for Asia.

“ANOC has a key role to play in facilitating the sharing of knowledge and resources among NOCs and providing support for NOCs so you can best serve your athletes and communities. I look forward to actively contributing to a brighter and shared future by working with President Mitchell, the ANOC Executive Council, ANOC Secretary General and the entire ANOC team in Lausanne,” HE said.

The election of Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani as the new Vice President for Asia is a recognition of his extensive service to the Olympic Movement and his work towards the advancement of peace and development through sport. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani begins his four-year term which runs through 2026.
