The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and FIFA presidents were in Malaysia for a ceremonial ground-breaking ceremony on a new stadium.
The stadium will be built on the outskirts of AFC’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
With a seating capacity near 10,000 and a pitch graded at the highest quality by FIFA, the new stadium will be owned by the AFC and is being called “a state-of-the-art” development with top of the line features for fans and media.
The FIFA Forward development program will provide funding of the stadium, with the Football Association of Malaysia and the Malaysian government providing “logistical support.”
FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the stadium was “an important investment for Asian football.” AFC president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa echoed those thoughts:
“The AFC House has been the focal point of football development through numerous courses, workshops and seminars in the areas of technical and referring, and now with this new AFC Stadium we have the potential to do so much more.”
