With just under a year to go until the start of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, officials are scrambling after the CEO Claude Atcher was fired.
A report by the French Labour Inspectorate concluded Atcher oversaw “an extremely degraded social environment” at the organizing committee.
In a statement France 2023 said, “The report brought forward by the French Labour Inspectorate corroborates and compliments the report produced by the France 2023 Ethics Committee.”
“Taking note of the report’s conclusions, France 2023′s board has decided to terminate the contract of CEO Claude Atcher.”
Atcher was already suspended two months ago due to allegations about his management style, where the French sports daily L’Equipe reported his employees suffered panic attacks and were mentally spent.
France 2023 has already appointed Julien Collette, Atcher’s former deputy general director, as the new CEO.
The Rugby World Cup begins September 8, 2023 and the final takes place October 28 in Paris.
