The Guardian Girls Karate Seminar, a women’s karate self-defense seminar, will be kicking off their inaugural event on Saturday October 8 in Los Angeles.
Launched by the World Karate Federation (WKF), the Koyamada International Foundation (KIF) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the project’s goal is empowering girls and young women to overcome situations of gender-based violence through karate training.
So far the event is expected to attract hundreds of women to help learn the tools of karate, as well as important community leaders from the Los Angeles area. The activity will be managed by karate world champion and member of the WKF Athletes’ Commission Elisa Au. Olympian and Pan American champion Sakura Kokumai will be also be assisting.
Another part of the weekend will include the WKF, KIF and UNFPA signing a partnership agreement to join forces to fight gender based violence.
