The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) has launched the inaugural WBSC Virtual Cup. The eSport competition will be happening across selected cities in Japan, Mexico, South Korea and the United States.
Everybody can participate, regardless of age, gender or previous baseball or softball experience.
The WBSC Virtual Cup will be hosted through Newdin’s Strikezon top of the line technology.
Eight or sixteen teams will ultimately advance to the Super Round from each of the 13 divisions. The Super Round will be held the weekend of October 23 and will be a single-elimination tournament for each division. The winners of those divisions, plus three wild card teams will advance to the 16 team World Finals.
The World Finals will be in South Korea at the end of November. The final team standing will win the WBSC Virtual Cup and a cash prize of $10,000 USD, said the WBSC in a statement.
The Virtual Cup is the WBSC’s first eSport competition and was announced back in December 2020 when the WBSC approved the inclusion of eSport with all virtual and electronic versions of baseball and softball among their official disciplines.
