The International World Games Association (IWGA) announced they have joined the Chinese social media platform Weibo.
Weibo is the second-largest social media site in China, trailing only WeChat. Of course many popular social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat are banned in China.
“We have known for a long time we should enter the Chinese social media market,” said IWGA Communication Officer Anna Jacobson.
“Not only is China an important country for us, with Chinese athletes widely present at The World Games, but also our next edition will be held in Chengdu, China in 2025. We have chosen to start the promotion for this with the platform Weibo.”
The Chengdu World Games will take place August 7-17, 2025. Chengdu is also scheduled to host the World University Games next year.
