Ticket sales for the 2023 Lake Placid FISU Winter World University Games began on Thursday, with organizers revealing ticket prices ranging from 10 to 45 dollars.

The opening ceremony and ice hockey medal matches are the most expensive tickets on the market, going for $45 a person. Meanwhile, ice hockey preliminary matches are the cheapest tickets on offer at $10 a person.

Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Wilmington, North Creek, Canton and Potsdam are set to host events during the Games. Organizers expect more than 2,500 collegiate athletes to descend on the Adirondacks for the Games.

Ashley Walden, executive director of the Adirondack Sports Council, commented, “The launch of ticket sales is an exciting milestone for a global event of this size.”

“Fans will now be able to purchase their tickets to witness the world’s best collegiate winter athletes compete on Lake Placid’s historic competition venues and throughout the iconic North country region,” said Walden.

She added, “in keeping with the Games’ mission for sustainability and conservation, tickets will be available primarily on a mobile platform.”

Organizers have partnered with digital ticketing company vivenu to manage ticket sales.

“We are delighted to serve the FISU World University Games with our open ticketing platform,” said Simon Weber, co-founder of vivenu.

He concluded, “the Games’ ethos of sportsmanship and international reach is close to our hearts, and we have found ambitious, forward-thinking partners in the Organizing Committee.”

Lake Placid has made a significant investment in its winter sports infrastructure ahead of the 2023 FISU Winter World University Games. New York Governor Kathy Hochul claimed over $500 million would be invested into modernizing winter sports facilities in the region last month.

It remains to be seen if that investment will pay off for one of the traditional homes of winter sports in the United States.

The 2023 FISU Winter World University Games are scheduled to kick-off on January 12, 2023 in Lake Placid. The Games will then come to a close January 22, 2023.
