With Oregon22 just under a month away, this year’s Team USA World Athletics Championship coaches have taken to social media to show their excitement leading the United States team.

Heading up the men’s team will be Stanley Redwine from the University of Kansas. Redwine has been with Kansas for 22 seasons and has been incredibly successful during his tenure there. He was an assistant coach at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and is now getting his shot at the helm of Team USA.

On the women’s side, LaTanya Sheffield will take the lead. Sheffield is the head coach at Long Beach University and assists with coaching all the sprints for both men and women. She is a former Olympic and American record holder and was chosen as one of the United States’ coaches at both the Rio 2016 Olympics and Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Professionally, both Redwine and Sheffield have a slew of awards they have accumulated between competing nationally and internationally in their long careers. They are familiar with the selection process and know what goes into finding the right spot for those runners who qualify across multiple events considering the fact that there are less spots available than the amount of athletes who qualify.

Team USA should be in good shape in Eugene with these two leading the charge. Both coaches have also chosen seasoned support staff members to assist in the coaching process.

Perhaps some of the most exciting coaches to grace the coaching squad are the throws coaches with Ashley Kovacs on the women’s staff and Shawn Wilbourn on the men’s. Kovacs just finished up a seven year stint with Ohio State University, but is likely the most well-known for coaching her husband Joe to silver in Tokyo last summer.

With these coaches leading an already powerful team, the marks recorded at the World Championships could break records left and right. The Championship meet will kick off July 15 and run through July 24 at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. This will be the first time the World Athletics Championships are ever hosted on U.S. soil.
