The medals design for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England have been revealed, as athletes and fans get their first look.
A total of 1,875 medals will be produced for the Commonwealth Games which run July 28 to August 8.
The gold, silver and bronze medals feature a design to symbolize the road and canal network in the West Midlands, organizers said.
“We really thought about the athletes when designing the medals,” said lead designer Amber Alys. “We focused on the connection between athletes and their journey to reach the podium.”
The medals design came from three students at the Birmingham School of Jewellery, and were made by a local firm. The winning students were Alys, Francesca Wilcox and Catarina Rodrigues Caeiro.
The designers also incorporated texture to the medals in order to assist visually-impaired athletes.
