The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has agreed to a sponsorship deal with SuperSport in Africa to help WADA raise awareness of clean sport throughout Africa, according to an official WADA statement.

This marks the first sponsorship of its kind for WADA. The agreement is for two years, and will see SuperSport become an official WADA sponsor. They will also provide funding and help deliver education programs promoting clean sport.

WADA President Witold Banka noted the historic occasion.

“This is an historic agreement for WADA and a good day for clean sport,” he said. “I want to find alternative revenue sources, including private funding to complement the contributions we receive from the Sport Movement and governments of the world.

“SuperSport recognizes the value with being associated with WADA, and the broader anti-doping community, and we are grateful for the vision, commitment and generosity they have shown in becoming our first official sponsor.”

In addition to money, SuperSport will provide WADA with advertising and promotional airtime to help spread their message of clean sport. They also want to raise awareness on the dangers of doping by focusing on young athletes and their parents, as well as coaches, doctors and viewers in general.

“We celebrate not just sport, but clean sport,” said SuperSport Chief Executive Marc Jury. “This agreement is an important landmark in SuperSport’s long history. WADA does outstanding work in Africa and around the world, and it is incumbent on us to help raise awareness of anti-doping among athletes and others across the continent.”
