It was going to be a special night for figure skater Nathan Chen, but he had no idea just how special it would be.

Chen is part of the Stars on Ice show currently touring across the United States. He, along with fellow Beijing 2022 medalists Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue, World bronze medal winner Alysa Liu and former U.S. champion Jason Brown all went to see Elton John during his “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” tour Tuesday night in Greensboro, North Carolina.

During the concern, John let Chen know how appreciative he was to Chen for choosing “Rocket Man” during his free skate performance in Beijing.

“It took on a new meaning when I watched the Winter Olympics this year,” John told the audience. “Professionalism, athleticism, just incredible. I was just so honored that he chose my song.”

It wasn’t the first time John praised Chen. He tweeted a congratulatory message to him after he won gold in Beijing.

“I love to listen to Elton John. It’s nuts to think that he even knows that I exist,” Chen told Olympics.com back in February.
