There are now less than 100 days to go until the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 and local organizers are heralding in the final stretch of preparations with two special events in Portland, Oregon.
First, is the official opening of the Museum of World Athletics’ (MOWA) in-person heritage exhibit at Pioneer Place. The exhibit is themed around the World Athletics Championships Oregon2022, with local organizers describing it as “a stunning visual experience celebrating the sport of track and field and its history.”
Second, is the first leg of the World Wide Welcome (WWW) Youth Relay. The relay will feature various youth groups as part of Oregon22′s youth engagement program ‘Making Tracks’. Each leg of the relay will be dedicated to one of the participating national teams at Oregon22.
Relay participants will get the chance to leave a welcome message for the nation their leg of the relay represents. According to local organizers, these messages will be shared with the competitors in the athlete village once they arrive for the world championships.
Sarah Massey, CEO of Oregon22, LLC, commented, “our team has been working hard to develop plans and programming to make this event the best of all Worlds. From youth engagement to the athlete experience, from in-stadium innovations to digital transformation, we are aiming to be the new blueprint for the hosting of major sports championships in the future.”
“We are very excited to mark this milestone of 100 days until we welcome the world to Oregon. We are now in the final push to the World Athletics Championships, and we cannot wait for the action to begin and to experience history-making moments with fans and participants from across the state, the country, and the globe.”
“Our event will be held in glorious Oregon, one-of-a-kind Eugene, and storied Hayward Field.”
The World Athletics Championships Oregon22 are scheduled to begin on July 15, 2022.
