Overcoming tremendous odds to even compete, the Ukrainian men’s and women’s boxing teams shined at the EUBC U22 European Boxing Championship.

The women’s team won four medals, including three bronze, while Karolina Makhno took gold in the middleweight category.

In a statement the International Boxing Association (IBA) expressed their gratitude the German Olympic Committee, the German Boxing Association and the city of Heidelberg, Germany for giving the Ukrainian team the opportunity to stay there and train.

Boxing federations from across Europe, including Poland, Germany, Croatia, Italy and Bulgaria also were acknowledged for their support of the Ukrainian team.
