The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) held its first, official test event of the Boulder & Lead in Barcelona over the weekend.
The event featured 40 Spanish climbers, who took on the walls of Chris Sharma’s latest venture in Gavà Spain. Iziar Martinez Almendros and Olympic Champion Alberto Ginés López both ended up on the top of the podium.
In the Boulder and Lead women’s final, Joana Martinez Almendros dominated the event, scoring a total of 99.8 points.
Almendros was the only climber in the Lead climb to reach the summit and score a perfect 100.0 point total.
Ismael Martinez Almendros secured first place with 199.8 points. Monsech Gasca came in second with 113.6 points, while Torres Illamola was third with 102.8 points.
Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalist Alberto Ginés Lpez was the top male climber at the event. He scored 80.1 points in Boulder and added 90.0 in the Lead segment.
Javier Cano Blzquez took silver with 101.1 points, while Mikel Linacisoro Molina won bronze with 70.8 points.
The Boulder & Lead event is one of the four medal events that will be contested at the European Championships in Munich in August and at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
