The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is set to terminate their deal lucrative sponsorship deal with Russian state energy company Gazprom.
UEFA signed a three-year extension with Gazprom last year, at about £33.5 million per year, but the deal is reported to terminate by the end of the week.
The UEFA Champions League final was scheduled to take place on May 28 in Gazprom Arena in St. Petersburg, Russia but has since been relocated to Paris following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
According to the Daily Mail, the termination agreement calls for no Gazprom ads at the stadium or on television.
In addition, UEFA is set to remove Spartak Moscow from their Europa League tournament. They are the only Russian team left in the final 16. They had already been banned by UEFA from playing their home match against German club Red Bull Leipzig.
Another German football club, FC Schalke 04 have already decided to remove Gazprom from their jersey. Gazprom has sponsored the team since 2007.
