China tells Japan, “we supported Tokyo 2020, now you support Beijing 2022″

Japan’s prime minister has been quiet on the issue of a diplomatic boycott as pressure mounts in his own party

China is seeking Japan’s support for the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics, but it comes with a catch.

Don’t interfere with our relationship with Taiwan, and keep your opinions about it to yourselves.

The Chinese enjoy to Japan, Kong Xuanyou, reiterated China’s stance the Beijing 2022 Games are being used as a “political tool” and said, “given that China supported Tokyo hosting the Olympics, I think Japan should have good intentions towards our Games.”

Tensions between China and Japan have risen greatly in the past few weeks, after former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said his country would not stand by if China attacked Taiwan and Beijing needed to understand that.

Those comments didn’t go unnoticed in Beijing, as China’s foreign ministry quickly held “an emergency meeting” with the Japan’s ambassador.

Kong called Abe’s comments, “a one-sided provocation that we cannot accept.” He further said the people of Japan have “a biased view of China’s political system and are spreading rumors about human rights in Xinjiang and Hong Kong.”

Japan’s current Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said he has no plans to attend the Beijing Games, but has stopped short of issuing any sort of diplomatic boycott, like the United States and other countries have done.

Kong also criticized the recently held “Summit for Democracy” which was hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden and was attended by over 50 countries, including Japan
