Innsbruck, Austria, 11.12.2019 – The Winter World Masters Games (WWMG) 2020 offer amateur athletes a unique opportunity to compete in an international event with an Olympic vibe. As well as the sporting competitions, WWMG 2020 participants and locals can look forward to a diverse range of cultural events including concerts, shows and interactive workshops. The Athletes Parade on 11th of January will be the first of many highlights.
Masters Village
Located in Maria-Theresien-Straße, Innsbruck’s main shopping street in the centre of the city, the Masters Village will be cultural heart of the WWMG 2020. Its traditional winter market featuring attractions and concerts will be open daily between 12th and 19th of January from 11:30 until 22:00. After a long day of sporting action, everyone will gather here to celebrate together. The Masters Village will also host victory ceremonies in the evenings (every day from 18:00). Athletes, guests and locals are all invited to take part in the WWMG 2020 cultural events free of charge.
Official opening ceremony of the WWMG 2020
On 11th of January 2020 the Winter World Masters Games 2020 will be officially opened in the heart of the Innsbruck with an Athletes Parade leading from the regional theatre through the historic oldtown past the famous Golden Roof to the Masters Village. It is there that the official opening ceremony of the WWMG 2020 will take place. The ceremony will be followed by a concert from Matakustix, an Austrian ensemble who have made a name for themselves with their unique fusion of beatboxing and traditional folk music. Further highlights and cultural events
On 15th of January it will be Erwin & Edwin, Austria’s coolest electro-bass band, getting the party started in the Masters Village. One of the musical highlights of the WWMG 2020 follows just a few days later on 18th of January with a performance by man of the moment, Josh, who shot to fame in the summer of 2018 with his smash hit "Cordula Grün".
Music will be going on throughout the Winter World Masters Games 2020, from classic Tyrolean folk music by performers including the Gundolf family and the brass band from the village of Oberperfuß near Innsbruck to western Austria’s biggest silent disco presented by Audioversum, a museum in Innsbruck all about hearing and sound. Those who want to get involved in the action will have the chance to do so on 16th of January at the Waltz Night, an interactive workshop led by dance instructors Ferry & Julia Polai aimed at teaching locals and visitors this most Austrian of dances. The WWMG 2020 Athletes Stage (13th of January) will give competitors and volunteers taking part in the event the chance to show off their own musical skills on stage, followed by plenty of rock and roll in the Innsbruck Hard Rock Café. There will also be concerts by bands from the Innsbruck Music School, the Inn Seit`n Big Band and the choir ensemble Chorkuma feat. Anton Zapf. DJs from the radio station Kronehit will be in the Masters Village on 12th of January to get the vibe buzzing with a selection of fresh tracks and remixes.
