(ATR) The first World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Coach Seminar is looking toimprove taekwondo for Tokyo 2020.

Thirty coaches from around the world have convened in Seoul for five days to discuss ways they can prepare for the next Olympic Games.

"The coaches can ask questions of the WTF on the policy side – this is the first time we have given them a platform to speak for themselves," WTF Director General Jin-bang Yang said in a statement.

"The WTF expects more of these opportunities, so coaches will have more chance to influence policy – especially Competition Rules, championship management, and ranking and qualification policy."

The seminar will be just one component of the WTF Coach Forum which will also include the WTF technical committees, holding discussions on competition rules and systems, uniform designs, how athletes will be presented, and the new electronic and protector scoring system (PSS) .

"Those are the main areas of business," said Yang. "Changes to rules and systems are things we can change in a short time, so we will concentrate on discussing these two. The other things will take more time."

Toward the final days of the forum, the technical committees will present the proposed changes to top WTF executives and once agreed will be presented at the WTF General Assembly in November.

Agreed changes will be voted on and applied at the WTF championships in 2017.

Following controversy over scoring and refereeing at Beijing 2008, the WTF has made it their mission to change the game.

By focusing on transparency, fairness, PSS and revamping the Instant Video Replay system the WTF have been controversy free in London 2012 and Rio 2016 but feel it is not enough.

In a statement issued by the federation they not only want to be "fair and transparent but also to dazzle and excite".

The Tokyo 2020 Games may give them that opportunity allowing taekwondo athletes a better chance to gain sponsorship's from the sport's increased global interest.

The WTF Coach Forum began today and ends on Oct. 21.
