(ATR) Upcoming installments of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) will double as Olympic qualifying events for Rio 2016.
Each franchise participating in the fifth and sixth WSB seasons has agreed to reserve a select number of places on their roster for foreign boxers in order for them to receive an opportunity to qualify for the Olympics.
"This new policy should be regarded as WSB stages for two Olympic qualifying events, and all national federations are kindly asked to send their boxers to participate in these events," WSB chief executive officer Karim Bouzidi said in a release on Wednesday.
"The only difference is that WSB must screen the level of quality of these boxers before they are added in the WSB Foreign Boxers Draft to be further selected by each franchise."
The deadline for boxers’ submissions is August 22. The WSB Foreign Boxers Draft will be held on September 10.
