(ATR) All 143 national Olympic associations are invited to attend the inaugural World Olympians Forum (WOF) in Moscow.

The forum will bring together all of the NOAs for the first time to discuss key issues for Olympians and the important role sports play in society.

Members of the IOC, key Olympic sporting and non-governmental stakeholders as well as government representatives will attend the event.

"It’s a chance for the 143 national Olympians associations to get together and to discuss issues which are of importance to alumni Olympians," WOA chief executive officer Mike Miller tells Around the Rings.

Miller tells ATR there will be three main themes discussed during the forum: how the national associations are built to better serve their members, service to Olympians such as life transition and health issues as well as how the WOA can help with service to society projects.

At least one Olympian delegate will represent each NOA on the expense of the WOA with the possibility of a second delegate attending if the national association chooses. Miller says he expects anywhere from 100 to 150 attendees at the event.

"The inaugural WOF will be a fantastic platform to bring together all NOAs and key figures from the Olympic family to promote the Olympic values and to discuss and debate the key issues for Olympians and the Olympic Movement around the globe," said WOA president Joël Bouzou.

The event is jointly organized by the WOA and the Russian Olympic Committee. The forum will feature celebrations for Olympians and Russian history and sport culture.

"We are delighted to be hosting the inaugural WOF and to be welcoming the IOC and the Olympic Movement back to Russia following the huge success of Sochi 2014. We are looking forward to working with the WOA to provide a platform for in depth discussion on the most important issues facing Olympians around the world," said ROC president Alexander Zhukov.

Bouzou says it’s the responsibility of the WOA to represent Olympians and work to benefit their lives.

"The inaugural WOF will be an historic event that will be forever recorded in Olympic history. I’m confident that the first ever WOF will be a wonderful celebration of Olympism that will help to shape the agenda going forward on issues concerning Olympians," Joël Bouzou said.

The WOF will take place in Moscow, Russia from October 20-22.
