(ATR) It’s the first time the 12-team tournament is being hosted in the U.S., which won the 2004 and 2006 championships. The round robin competition got underway Wednesday just a few miles south of Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center.
The tournament will put to the test new rules for baseball proposed by the WBSC to speed up play, such as 12 seconds between pitches when there are no runners on base.
ATR will be on the scene for the duration of the event, which ends Aug. 31.
