White Castle USA Luge Slider Search in Duluth canceled after NY puts MN on "hot" list

In an abundance of caution and with New York adding Minnesota to its list of COVID-19 "hot" states, USA Luge, based in Northern New York, and White Castle, have canceled this weekend’s White Castle USA Luge Slider Search in Duluth. Three clinics per day were slated for July 25-26.

The office of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo recently placed Minnesota on a growing lineup of states whose residents will be questioned and must be quarantined if they enter the Empire State. Had the clinics been held, USA Luge coaches would have been placed in the position of returning home to 14 days of isolation, thus affecting family members and their work schedules in the team’s Lake Placid office.

"We were definitely looking forward to meeting these young athletes in Duluth and finding future talent for our teams," said Gordy Sheer, USA Luge Olympic silver medalist and its Director of Marketing and Sponsorship. "But this pandemic and the addition of Minnesota on the New York list has dictated that we cancel this weekend’s activities. While we are disappointed, we have to look at the reality of our situation when staff members return from Duluth. Everyone’s health, the progress New York State has made in the battle against COVID-19 and the safety of our athletes and staff, supersedes all other matters."

White Castle has been the slider search sponsor for the past three years, and was equally excited about the first stop of the off-season recruitment tour. They were in agreement however that, under the circumstances, such a decision was prudent.
