The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) has released the team rosters of athletes who will represent their countries in the Flying Disc competition during The World Games in Wroclaw, Poland. The Ultimate Championship will be a three‐day event running from Friday to Sunday 21‐23 July 2017, and will feature the top national teams in Ultimate:Australia, Canada, Colombia, Japan, USA, and host country Poland.The featured format is mixed gender, with a 14 person roster – 7 men and 7 women.
"I am really looking forward to this edition of The World Games, the fifth for Flying Disc out of the ten which have been held," said Robert "Nob" Rauch, WFDF President."We have the best athletes in our sport coming to Wroclaw and are excited to showcase our sport across the globe over the Olympic Channel and live to all the local spectators."
Brian Gisel, who is the WFDF Ultimate Chair and Technical Director at The World Games, said "WFDF is looking forward to an exciting and highly competitive Ultimate event at the 2017 IWGA World Games. The players selected
by each of the six participating countries represent the top male and female players from their respective countries. As with any ‘best on best’ competition, the Ultimate event should prove to be a hard fought competition over three days as teams work to secure a medal position. We expect to see dozens of highlight‐reel plays in every game, and we look forward to bringing our sport to the fans in Wroclaw as well as those watching the broadcasts around the globe."
The World Games is a multi‐sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. At The World Games, sports and disciplines that are not on the Olympic programme can showcase their best athletes.Former The World Games sports Badminton, Triathlon and Taekwondo became Olympic sports in 2000 and Beach Volleyball in 1996. Rugby made it to the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016 and Karate, Sport Climbing, Surfing and Baseball/Softball will be presented in Tokyo 2020. The 10th edition of The World Games will be held in Wroclaw, Poland, 20–30 July 2017. Over 3,000 athletes from 31 sports and over 110 countries will take part in the Games. The World Games 2021 will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA.
