The World Baseball Softball Confederation announced that Twitter will be the Official Social Media Platform for the III WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup® 2016, which opened today in Iwaki, Japan.

As the Official Social Media Platform, Twitter's full suite of platform tools and applications, including Twitter Challenger, Periscope, Vine and SnappyTV, will be brought to the U-15 Baseball World Cup in Iwaki to expand and enhance real-time/in-game coverage, and create highly shareable/unique content, to amplify online media buzz and discussion.

Twitter Challenger (expansion of Twitter Mirror), the exclusive selfie app, will be used to capture self-expression of the U-15 teams/athletes, and give fas and followers an exciting behind-the-scenes, close-up perspective of the U-15 Baseball World Cup in Iwaki, particularly during post-game celebrations.

Twitter-owned SnappyTV will be integrated for clipping, editing and sharing clips from live broadcasts, in cooperation with WBSC's broadcast partners, in near real-time to stimulate online sharing/discussion and drive audiences to the full on-air broadcast, while also driving fans to attend the games in Iwaki.

WBSC and Twitter partnered on the Premier12® 2015 global baseball flagship event last November in Japan and Taiwan, which generated top ratings and a massive online media buzz in the host nations, and was Japan and Taiwan's most-watched major sports event in 2015.
