(ATR) Voting for the third edition of the '2014 Ranking of Sports Cities' is now open. The poll draws on public opinion worldwide to rank the top 50 cities perceived as the most closely associated with sport.

The international poll is presented by Around the Rings and TSE Consulting, which provides the online technology. Results are based on a public online vote coupled with an industry vote from sports experts.

Results will be announced December 18, 2014. Click here to vote.

"This ranking is unique and differentiated because of two important aspects: firstly, it is based also on the views of the general public - and not only a small group of insiders - as the view of the general public is obviously what the various cities are most interested in," says Lars Haue-Pedersen, managing director of TSE Consulting.

"Secondly, the ranking is not based on hard data, which in any way can be calculated in so many different ways, but on perceptions - and this is what branding is really about. Whether a city is an international sports city or not, really depends on how it is perceived by the world, and this is what this ranking will show"

Around the Rings Publisher Sheila Scott Hula says, "The rankings draw on criteria such as whether a city has hosted recent or upcoming Olympics or other major multi-sport Games. We also look at whether the cities have professional sports teams or have organized championships or world-class events."

With each edition of the poll, the three lowest ranked cities drop off the list, and the three top-named cities by the survey respondents are added.

In 2013, the poll was lead by London (GBR), followed by Barcelona (ESP) and Sydney (AUS).

Results are generated from an online survey system, powered by TSE Consulting. Respondents will include 'TSE Survey Experts', a group of 100 leaders drawn from international federations, national Olympic committees, sports media and other influencers in the world of sport. Answers from these experts will be combined with those from the general public.

The ranking is published once a year to capture the constant evolvement of the international sports world.
