(ATR) The United States will be going all out for revenge over their Canadian rivals in Sunday's ice hockey showdown.
Facing off in the gold medal match, Team U.S.A. are seeking to avenge Canada's victory over them in the 2002 Salt Lake City final.
The U.S. defeated Finland 6-1 and Canada defeated Slovakia 3-2 on Friday to qualify for the final. During pool play, the two sides met, with the U.S. claiming victory then 5-3.
All the matches with Canada have been popular events. However, not every seat was occupied at the Slovakia game. The crowd filed in through the night but at the start of the third period, Canada Hockey Place was around 95 percent filled, with several enviable seats at center ice unoccupied.
Canada’s men’s will be hoping they can replicate their female counterpart’s success. Canada defeated the U.S. to claim women’s gold on Thursday. Canada's women's team have won seven gold medals, the most recent coming in 2002. The United States has two Olympic titles, last winning the 1980 tournament.
Canada Reaches Speedskating Finals
Canada's men will take home their first 2010 Olympic medal in speedskating when they face USA in the finals of the men's team pursuit at the Richmond Oval today.
Canada twice set Olympic records on Friday topping out at 3 minutes and 42.22 seconds in its semifinal win over Norway. USA upset Netherlands in the semifinals. The loss for the Netherlands means that start skater Sven Kramer finishes the Vancouver Olympics with just one medal after winning two medals in Turin.
On Friday, Canada's Charles Hamelin helped the home nation to the Olympic 5,000m relay gold medal, seeing off the challenge from defending champions South Korea and the U.S. He had earlier won gold in the men's 500m short-track event.
China's domination of the short track women's events was completed when Wang Meng won the 1,000-meter gold to complete the country's sweep of the four medals.

The Great Vancouver Walk-off: The Final Steps Approach
With the end of the 2010 Winter Olympics just hours away, neither side is willing to declare or concede victory in the quest for gold in Olympic walking.
Around the Rings editor Ed Hula and publisher Sheila Hula both insist the winner will be known only at the moment the Games end Sunday night when both cauldrons are extinguished at the closing ceremony.
The Great Vancouver Walk-off is the only competition that lasts all 17 days of the Games.
At the end of 15 full days of competition, the publisher maintains a commanding lead of 69.71 km to the editor’s 26.3 despite taking a day off to nurse a hamstring injury.
“Any gains I make this weekend will because I’m singing in the rain,” the editor groused, referring to the soggy forecast for the Olympic city.
Results will be published Monday at AroundTheRings.com. They will be verified via the VANOC-branded pedometers contained in kits for accredited media.
