Canadian authorities are speeding up the criminal justice system for the Olympics
A spokesman for the British Columbia Attorney General’s office told The Vancouver Sun the decision was made to help tourists, who may commit minor crimes or be minor witnesses.
"The idea is, if possible, to provide an expedited hearing or expedited appearances in court so that accused or witnesses from out-of-province and out of the country won't have to stay an unduly long time to get their matter seen or heard, or have to return to deal with it," said Neil MacKenzie.
He said police are being trained to note if the suspect or witness is not a British Columbian, so they may have a trial by 2 PM the next day.
